Discover the AirWing™
AirWing™ was developed in response to the need to cut emissions from the shipping sector. With shipping companies focused on ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and the new regulatory measures imposed by the EU and the IMO increasing the cost of inaction, it was clear a solution was required through wind-assisted ship propulsion and advanced maritime decarbonization solutions.
Our solutions support a wide range of vessel types — from Bulk Carriers and Tankers to Container Ships and General Cargo Ships — each requiring tailored airflow and installation strategies.
Airwing has been designed to maximise fuel savings from a compact wind propulsion system. The small size of AirWing™ means it is quick and simple to instal, has limited impact on vessel cargo activities, and minimises the impact on day to day sailing operations
The small size of AirWing™ is allied to powerful thrust, created via our active system that controls airflow in and around the device. This power means that AirWing™ is at the cutting edge of green shipping technologies, delivering leading efficiency and energy density while enabling renewable energy in shipping.
By focusing on modularity and energy recovery, we offer seamless Retrofit Solutions that integrate with existing ships with minimal downtime.

How AirWing Works

Draws air in
Effect of drawing air in maintains adhesion of the boundary layer, delaying stall.

Recycling airflow
The air drawn in is channelled through the blown outlet over the rear flap.

Additional lifting surface
The recycled airflow exits as a pressurized jet, re-energizing the flap’s boundary layer to boost forward thrust.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
What is the GT Wings Jet Sail?
The Jet Sail is the world’s first commercial wind propulsion system designed to significantly reduce fuel consumption, emissions, and operational costs. It can be retrofitted to existing vessels or integrated into newbuilds.
How much fuel and CO₂ savings can I expect?
Depending on vessel size, route, and weather conditions, our Jet Sail delivers 5–30% fuel and CO₂ savings, helping shipowners meet environmental regulations like IMO, ETS, and FuelEU.
Is the Jet Sail performance data independently verified?
Lloyd’s Register has verified that GT Wings’ performance assessment methodology aligns with recognised industry standards, confirming that the approach used to isolate and quantify wind-assisted propulsion benefits is technically robust and suitable for in-service performance evaluation.
Is the system fully automated?
Yes. The Jet Sail is fully automated with minimal crew input required. It adjusts automatically to wind conditions, ensuring optimal performance without impacting vessel operations.
Can the Jet Sail be retrofitted to my current vessel?
Absolutely. Our team specializes in retrofit solutions, conducting feasibility studies and offering full integration support—concept design, class approvals, and commissioning
Does the Jet Sail comply with international maritime regulations?
How compact and durable is the Jet Sail?
The Jet Sail features a compact and modular design, meaning minimal deck space requirements and robust construction that withstands harsh marine environments.
How can I start the process or request a feasibility study?
You can book a feasibility call directly through our website or email us at [email protected]. We’ll analyze your fleet or project and guide you through the next steps.
